Excursion to Chidambaram and Pichavaram – Part 1/2
A couple of days back, went on a excursion with my classmates to Chidambaram Natarajar Temple and Pichavaram Mangrove Forest. Thought of sharing some snaps with you. In this post, some pictures from natarajar temple. Hope you too ‘ll enjoy it. Pichavaram is for another post.
Chidambaram Natarajar Temple
The temple town of Chidambaram is home to the Annamalai University, where my mom did her D.Lit. Hence at the instance when I told her about the excursion, she gave me lots of tips about what to see inside the temple. With all her advices in my mind, I boarded to chidambaram.
It is to be noted that this was my first ever trip to a ‘famous’ temple. Hence I was excited a bit. Chidambaram is literally the Northern gateway to the temple trough of Tamilnadu – the Thanjavur – Tiruvarur – Nagapattinam districts featuring hundreds and hundreds of ancient temples. Chidambaram is associated with Nataraja, or Shiva in his Ananda Tandava pose (the Cosmic Dance of bliss) in the cosmic golden hall and the hall of consciousness (Chit Sabha). The word கோவில் (Koyil) or temple in the Tamil Saivite tradition refers to none other than the Chidambaram Nataraja temple.

Some snaps on the way…
At the temple…
There was this old temple which was locked and forgotten, it made me sad because of its state.
